• Masked Up Theatre

Masked Up Theatre is a company aiming to do exactly what it says on the tin: advocate for masks in theatre and, in doing so, build inclusive spaces for people who have been shut out of day-to-day life since COVID restrictions were abandoned and the vast majority of people stopped protecting vulnerable communities.

Theatre often likes to present itself as an inclusive space where anyone should be able to create art. This, as with so many spaces, seems to stop the moment you request the safety of the air we share and protecting other people around us. COVID is “mild”. COVID is “the flu”. COVID is “not your problem anymore”. You vaxxed and relaxed.

Now I am asking you to put a mask back on. A good quality respirator.

As a masker, and as someone who has had my life permanently altered by the impacts of COVID, I created Masked Up Theatre to allow those who have been isolating for six years and counting to experience theatre in a safe environment, connect different members of an inherently lonely community, and to encourage others to put a mask back on. As many before me have said, ‘the best time to start masking was five years ago. The next best time is right now.’

It is my hope that, in years to come, I will be able to revive Masked Up Theatre to continue to create community spaces and shows for those left behind by society.

Can’t Make It To Shows In Person?

If you can’t make it to the show in person, do not worry! Both performances will be livestreamed so that you can also watch it from the comfort of your own home.
